We have some simple online annotation tools if you need to draw any boundary lines to highlight properties or areas. For example, if you need to draw a red line boundary round your property for planning permission.
Using Annotation Tools
• After you have found your location, you then need to zoom into the detailed mapping to find exactly the area you wish to outline. You can find out about viewing detailed mapping for free here.
• Select Annotation from the top menu to open up the annotation tool bar.
Automatically Select Area
• To automatically draw an area, click the Pick tool, then click once within the area you wish to highlight. This will highlight the whole area in red.
• You can adjust this area if required. Click once anywhere within the area to select it. This will also open up the Polygon Properties menu in the top right of the screen.
• You can change any of the polygon properties here. For example the line or fill colour. To remove the fill completely, select None from the Fill Menu.
• The Polygon Properties menu will also show you the approximate area of your polygon. NB this is not an accurate tool for surveying purposes and is only indicative of the area size.
TOP TIP! Use the zoom bar for a closer view of the mapping to make the adjustments easier.
• To adjust the area itself, click and drag any of the black or grey circles.
• You can also delete any black circle by hovering the mouse over the circle and clicking the delete key (not the backspace key) on your keyboard.
• If you've made a mistake or need to start again, select Clear All from the annotation tool bar.
• Once you are happy with your annotation, you can proceed to choose your map and scale.
Draw an Area Freehand
• You can also draw the area freehand. To do this, select Draw Area from the annotation tool bar.
• Then click around the area required to highlight it. To close off the polygon, double-click over the first point created.
• You can then adjust this area as above, by first clicking anywhere within the polygon and adjusting it using the black and grey circles.
• TOP TIP! Use the zoom bar for a closer view of the mapping to make the adjustments easier.
• If you've made a mistake or need to start again, select Clear All from the annotation tool bar.
• Once you are happy with your annotation, you can proceed to choose your map and scale.
